This project focuses on the comprehensive renovation of a lakeside home, emphasizing the integration of unique architectural details with the surrounding natural landscape. The design features distinctive architectural fluting fins on the house, mirrored by stone fins that extend into the planted hillside prairie garden. These elements create a harmonious visual connection between the architecture and landscape, enhancing the home’s aesthetic appeal. The renovation includes a landscape staircase that aligns with the vertical architectural fins, leading seamlessly towards the lake. Crushed stone pathways and concrete steppers, adorned with natural stone, contribute to an earthy palette that complements the home’s beautiful cedar shake facade. A new lower-level door wall opens to a spacious patio gathering area, offering stunning views of the water and the prairie hillside.

A carefully designed bridge leads guests through the woodland, preserving mature trees while introducing a tapestry of native woodland plants to rejuvenate the forest floor. A mix of native grasses, perennials, trees, and forbs enhances the sensory experience along the path to the home. To enhance the evening ambiance, landscape lighting has been strategically placed to highlight the garden paths and celebrate the majestic trees, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both residents and visitors. Overall, this renovation revitalizes the home and fosters a deep connection between the architecture and its picturesque woodland and lake setting, celebrating the beauty of nature while enhancing functionality and aesthetic appeal.
