DuCharme Place

DuCharme Place is an apartment complex in Lafayette Park, Detroit. It offers unique outdoor living and gathering spaces throughout a series of green roof terraces. Comprised of three separate buildings, the DuCharme Place green roofs are interconnected by a series of pedestrian bridges, allowing the residents of each building to utilize the unique spaces. The main green roof is home to a large passive lawn space; an area for relaxing, grilling and entertaining. The secondary lawn space provides an area for resident recreation and activities. The third portion of green roof encompasses the fitness plaza, perfect for group fitness classes, the outdoor pool space and the resident gym. Modern lines and timeless materials complement the building design, whilst creating substantial green spaces. Uses of mass plantings and varied material heights give residents a level of privacy from common areas, without hindering views to the outdoors. Custom Ipe wood and metal benches appear to rise up from the sedum groundcover, inviting residents to enjoy the garden. Mimicking the verticality of trees, tall lighting elements provide interest and ample lighting. DuCharme Place was completed in the Fall of 2017.
